SUMMARY
We are looking for a Forensic Engineer (Civil/Structural) with +5 years’ experience as a licensed engineer with 1-2 years of forensic engineering experience to conduct forensic assessments of commercial, institutional, high-rise, and residential buildings to determine failures and defects. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing structural and building failure analysis, evaluations on damaged properties, and/or conducting facilities/building condition assessments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Work on a wide range of structural-engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures. The role will focus on the repair/rehabilitation/restoration of existing buildings.
- Provide forensic engineering, cause and origin analysis, design defects evaluation, construction defects analysis, and structural analysis.
- Provide property loss insurance and claims response, document existing conditions, and offer objective analysis. Manage complex assignments and client expectations.
- Provide building envelope failure & damage analysis including cladding and roofing systems.
- Provide conceptual repair recommendations for reconstruction of buildings and building envelope systems.
- Provide forensic inspections for site drainage (experience with large-scale master planning including climate resilient considerations for buildings, infrastructure, site utilities, landscape, and mobility).
- Deliver collaborative solutions with Halliwell’s team of Structural and Building engineering groups.
- Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
- Prepare proposals, including budgeting and personnel requirements.
- Manage a complex project or part of a project with responsibility for supervising pertinent work, evaluating results, and preparing reports with minimal assistance.
- Manage direct client contact within existing work while building and nurturing relationships with external project team members.
- Prepare and complete formal reports and letter reports with minimal supervisor guidance.
- Lead technical and/or project discussions with clients and external project teams.
- Actively contribute to internal technical training.
- Publish articles/papers and give technical presentations.
KEY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis and design of building envelope systems, concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
- BS degree in Architectural, Structural/Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineering licensure required.
- Prefer NCEES record.
- Affiliation with industry organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers or other active civil organization, including working on committees, presentations, or other active participation.
- Demonstrated advanced technical knowledge within your area of technical expertise.
- Ability to integrate the work of several technical experts into an effective solution.
- Prior exposure to similar project types and awareness of related outside technical resources.
- Skill in personal time management and project scope management.
- Ability to identify and manage changes in scope.
- Experience in computer analysis software.
- Experience with application of building and reference codes as they pertain to existing buildings and new construction.
- Experience working with property management companies, real estate investment firms or their representatives, conducting facilities/building condition assessments.
- Experience with storm damage (hail/wind/water/freeze) to building envelope systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational and project management skills.
- Essential requirements include climbing ladders and scaffolds.
- Ability to work well with a team.
- Ability/willingness to travel.
